Feb. 20: Golden Dragon Acrobats to present exciting new show at CLC

The Golden Dragon Acrobats will present "Cirque Ziva" at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. This fast-paced, technically innovative and beautifully presented show just completed a five-week New York City run at Broadway's New Victory Theater from Dec. 1, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015.

The world-famous Golden Dragon Acrobats were founded by producer and artistic director Danny Chang, one of the world's leading promoters of Chinese acrobatics. "Cirque Ziva" includes segments that feature contortionists, acrobatic feats, gravity-defying balancing chair acts, the amazing group unicycle and jugglers who keep hoops, balls, hats and umbrellas spinning and flying in the air. According to Broadway World, "This unique cirque spectacular showcases traditional Chinese acrobats who dazzle with amazing feats of athleticism, daring heart-stopping stunts and the grace of their centuries-old art form."

The Golden Dragon Acrobats hail from Cangzhou, Hebei province in the People's Republic of China and have toured the United States continuously since 1978. Its members are athletes, actors and artists who have studied and trained for their craft since early childhood. The group averages 200 performances each year and has toured through all 50 states and in over 65 countries. In 2005, their Broadway debut and seven-week run at the New Victory Theater earned two prestigious New York Drama Desk Awards nominations for best choreography and most unique theatrical experience.

"Cirque Ziva" was created in 2011 by Asian Artists Productions, Inc. (AAPI) in coordination with renowned lighting director Tony Tucci. The production ran for 10 weeks at Asbury Park Boardwalk's Paramount Theatre. The show represents the best of AAPI and its brand of artistic merit, high production value and solid commitment to cultural exchange. In 2013, AAPI premiered the show across North America with a four-month tour.
