Sharing their talents throughout Chicagoland comes naturally to the members of Spirito!, a girls' choir based in the western suburbs. The two girls' ensembles and the 18-and-older men's ensemble perform approximately 20 concerts in the Chicago area each season, but once per year, the girls get a chance to show the members of an entirely different community just how hard they have worked.
The Ragazze Ensemble, comprised of 5th-8th grade girls, took a regional tour to Milwaukee, Wis. This tour included a performance at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, as well as visits to local attractions the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Safe House. The Bravura Ensemble, Spirito!'s premier performance and touring ensemble comprised of high school aged young women, spent a long weekend sharing their talents in San Francisco, Calif.
In addition to performances at St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Ignatius Church, Bravura girls also had plenty of time to take in the sights of the city, with tours of historic Chinatown and Alcatraz Island, as well as several other local attractions.
With an aim to instill musical excellence as well as civic responsibility, Spirito!'s tours are about more than just exposing singers to new performance venues.
The choir members get the chance to broaden their musical and social horizons, to see how sharing their talents can affect people across the region and across the country, not just in their own communities.
Locally, Spirito! Singers will be sharing their talents on Saturday, Aug. 30, when they sing the national anthem at the Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers 12:10 p.m. game at U.S. Cellular Field. Tickets are available at www.spiritosingers.org.
Spirito! is currently auditioning singers for all choirs for their 2014-15 season. To schedule an audition, please email email@example.com or call (630) 581-5440.
