Ready, Set…Go! COD Laps With the Chaps Brings One Thousand to Campus

The third annual 2013 College of DuPage Laps with the Chaps 5K Run/Walk was a great success with nearly 350 registrations and corporate sponsors at all levels. The annual road running event traversed the entire main campus, starting and ending on the track surrounding the football field. Nearly 1000 people, including spectators and volunteers, enjoyed the fall weather and free activities in Race Village and Kid Zone such as a bounce house, bag toss games, face painting and pre- and post-race stretching. The Laps with the Chaps course is certified by the USATF and the event itself is certified by the Chicago Area Runners Association, making it attractive to serious athletes. A 1-mile Youth Dash was introduced this year, in which youngsters under the age of 12 competed for best time. Josh Tischler and Lexi Gallup (both aged 12) were the first male and female young athletes to cross the finish line. More than 30 teams participated in three separate competitions, including Best Team Name (“Go For the Gold”), Best Time (Clapham Cross Country at 23:35) and Best Visual Representation of COD Pride (“Team ATP”). Each team member was awarded with a free one-hour massage from Advantage Wellness Clinic in Wheaton, Ill. The Top Overall Male (Brett Lustgarten at 15:41.1) and Female (Jessica Rangel at 19:41.2) and “Middle of the Pack” (Lukasz Poplawski at 29:07.5) runners each received a $200 Visa gift card.
