Gibis pitches Wauconda past Antioch

Wauconda’s baseball team moved one step closer Monday to completing a perfect run through the North Suburban Conference Prairie Division.

The Bulldogs defeated host Antioch 5-2, as Brandon Gibis earned the win over David Meade in a battle of aces.

Jeff Lindberg went 2-for-4 and Austin Piekarski doubled for Wauconda (16-5), which will play Mundelein in Thursday’s North Suburban Conference championship game.

Antioch (16-12), which visits Wauconda today, got doubles from Mitch Everett and Christian Norris.

Vernon Hills 6, Lakes 3: Down 3-2 going into the seventh inning, the Cougars scored four times to secure the North Suburban Prairie Division win.

Connor Dickman started things off with a walk and scored the tying run on a double by Jordan Freibrun (3-for-4). After Tommy Earhart lined out to first, Tyler Feece’s single scored Freibrun to put the Cougars up by a run. Courtesy runner Dylan McNamara stole second then moved to third on a single by Pat Crowley (3-for-4, 2 runs).

An errant pickoff attempt pushed the lead to two, as McNamara scored and Crowley moved to third. Vernon Hills scored the final run of the inning when Crowley made what coach Jay Czarnecki called an “excellent read” of Ethan McGrew’s groundout to shortstop.

Feece earned the win going 6 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. Nick Newman earned the save by pitching a scoreless final frame.

Lakes (11-16, 6-5) was led offensively by Joe Sisk (2-for-3, RBI) and Nick Seketa (2-for-3, double).

Grant 10, Round Lake 0: Luke Lostroscio improved to 3-0, pitching a five-inning 1-hitter with 6 strikeouts in the North Suburban Prairie contest.

Grant (15-10, 5-6) was led offensively by Danny Farhat (1-for-1), Jacob Adams (2-for-3) and Brent Spohr: 2-for-3 (triple).

Round Lake fell to 2-9 in the NSC Prairie.

Grayslake North 11, Woodstock North 2: Nick Carmody, Carl Russell and Matt Eney homered as the Knights won going away to remain in first place in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division.

Grayslake North (16-7, 11-6) got doubles from Russell (3-for-4), Andrew Mikusa and Merrick Gentile. Ryan Gross earned the win.

Crystal Lake South 4, Grayslake Central 3: Ryan Fontana had a double for the Rams, who fell to 19-11 and 10-8 in the Fox Valley Fox.

Carmel 10, St. Patrick 0: Tyler Murphy had 2 homer runs and 4 RBI, and Quentin Sefcik earned the victory for the Corsairs, who moved to 21-6 and 11-4 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Lake Forest 11, Lake Zurich 2: The Bears fell to 4-7 in the North Suburban Lake.
