ECC to hold two commencement ceremonies May 18

Elgin Community College will hold two commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 18, for spring 2013 candidates for graduation. Both ceremonies will be held in the Building J Spartan Events Center at the ECC Spartan Drive Campus at 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

In addition, a ceremony for graduates of the General Education Development program will be held in conjunction with Elgin Area School District U-46 at 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, in the Building J Spartan Events Center.

On Saturday, May 18, a ceremony for university transfer degrees (associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts-visual art emphasis, associate in fine arts-music performance emphasis, associate in engineering science, associate in liberal studies) will be at 10 a.m.

A ceremony for career and technical programs (associate of applied science degrees, vocational specialist certificates, and basic vocational specialist certificates) will be at 2 p.m. Students will be assigned to the graduation ceremony depending on which credential is being earned.

The ceremonies replace a single Friday evening ceremony. Guests will not need tickets for admission to the commencement ceremony and there will be open seating in the Events Center. The doors will open one hour prior to each ceremony. The use of noise makers are prohibited during both ceremonies.

Graduates must pick up their cap and gown in the Building B Jobe Lounge from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 6. Additional information will be provided during pickup. Graduates who cannot pick up their cap and gown must make arrangements by contacting Ann King, registrar, at (847) 214-7228 or annking@elgin.edu.

Commencement rehearsal will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, in the Events Center and participants should enter through the Building H Arts Center. Caps and gowns are not required for rehearsal.
