Small ball works for Barrington, too
The area’s top home-run hitting softball team didn’t have a hit leave the park on Tuesday.
But Barrington did leave the field with 13 hits and another win.
Keenan Dolezal threw a 5-hitter as the Fillies posted an 8-1 victory over defending Mid-Suburban League East champion Elk Grove at the Fields of Dreams.
The Fillies right-hander (9-0) got all the runs she needed in the first when her team scored 4 runs.
Top hitters for Barrington (12-0, 3-0) were seniors Krista Moore (3-for-4, 2 runs), Loren Krzysko (2-for-4, 1 run), Maggie O’Hara (2-for-4, 2 runs), Morgan Olszewski (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Sam Rosenfeld (1-for-3, 2 RBI).
Senior Elisa Payne went 3-for-3 for the Grenadiers (9-3, 0-2).
Conant 4, Buffalo Grove 0: The two-time defending MSL West champs improved to 6-2 and 2-0 as sophomore Kim Zaucha (3-1) threw an 8-hitter and struck out five.
Leading the Cougars offense were senior Sarah Thompson (2-for-3, 2 runs, 1 stolen base), sophomore Elisa Ambrose (3-for-3, 2 run), junior Rachel O’Malley (2-fo-r3, 1 run) and junior Telly Hunter (1-for-3, 2 RBI),
Sophomore Caitlin Catino (3-for-4) and pitcher Julia Camardo (2-for-3), also a sophomore, were top hitters for the Bison (4-4, 0-2).
Hoffman Estates 7, Hersey 4: Sophomore Charlotte Allan worked the first six innings to notch the win for host Hoffman Estates (2-4, 2-0).
The game was tied at 4-4 when Hawks junior catcher Kaitlin Hendle (2-for-4) led off the fifth with her first home run of the season over the centerfield fence for the game-winning RBI.
Hoffman added insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Jordyn Fera and Andrea Wolinski.
Nicole LaBeck and Sam Acosta were also 2-for-4 for Hoffman while teammate Natalie Biddle had a double.
Kelsey Panfil (3-for-3, walk) had a pair of doubles for Hersey (2-5, 0-3). Teammates Alysia Zaucha (2-for-4) and Gina Fasolo each had one.
Maine West 3, Deerfield 2: Maine West won the CSL North game by scoring a run in the top of the eighth inning to edge host Deerfield.
Senior ace Ariel Valles (3-1) earned the win.
Gina Larucci (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 run) belted a home run and 2 doubles while Holly Wengerski was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 runs to lead the offense for the Maine West (6-1, 1-0).
Wheeling 15, St. Viator (5 inn.): Junior Katie Quagliano (4-3) was the winning pitcher and went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI for the Wildcats (5-4).
Also leading Wheeling’s 18-hit attack were Sara Kern (2-for-4, RBI), Jackie Resnick (RBI, double), Nikki Mikosz (2-for-4, 2 RBI, double), Emily Walker (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI), Taylor Vasey (2 RBI), Lauren Hart (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Anne Janulis (3-for-4, 2 RBI).
Senior Michelle Presslak homered for St. Viator (3-3).
Fremd 16, Fenton 1 (5 inn.): Fremd improved to 5-5 as senior Ashlynne Schantz (4-2) posted the win. Kristine Herdegen homored for the host Vikes.
