Viator, BG wrap up Wheaton N. tourney at 2-3
The St. Viator and Buffalo Grove girls volleyball teams each finished with 2-3 records at the Wheaton North Invite on Saturday.
The Lions got a win on Wednesday over Buffalo Grove (25-21, 25-18) and one on Saturday over Andrews 26-28, 25-22, 22-11.
For the five-match tourney, Viator was led on attack by junior Mary Cleary, who was 80-of-102 with 32 kills. She was followed by Megan Mueller (27 kills) and Kristen Abrahamson (22).
Cleary also led the Lions (2-4 overall) with 15 blocks and 7 aces in the tourney while Mueller made a team-high 31 digs.
Kaitlin O’Brien (105-114, 44 assists) and Molly Ziegler (119-126, 48 assists) handled the setting chores.
BG (2-4 overall) earned its two wins on Saturday, getting past Romeoville 25-18, 25-19 and St. Joseph (25-21, 25-10).
Alaina Murphy put down 11 kills against St. Joseph while Mary Zawlocki had 5 and Alyssa Mills 3. Marie Georgoulis handed out 16 assists.
Murphy’s 5 kills led BG against Romeoville while Alicia Kantor added 3.
Harper takes third: Harper’s women’s volleyball team took third place when the 12-team College of DuPage tournament wrapped up on Saturday in Glen Ellyn.
The Hawks lost to Moraine Valley 15-25, 18-25, 22-25 in the semifinals with Veronica Dabrowski putting down a match-high 10 kills and Clara Moravec added 3. Megan Kollmeyer had 21 digs and Kelly Sommers 19 assists.
In the third-place match, Harper topped Illinois Valley 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-11 behind the attack of Erinn Hellweg (9 Kills), Sarah House (8), Stephanie Igielski (7) and Moravec (7).
Sommers had 39 assists and 21 digs.
