Barrington bounces back against Mundelein

After falling to Lake County powerhouse Stevenson in its season opener Tuesday night in two games, Barrington’s girls volleyball team hosted another Lake County team on Wednesday.

This time, the Fillies were on the winning end of a two-game match.

With Emily Watkins delivering 6 kills and Julia Thompson adding 5, the Fillies posted a 25-14, 29-27 triumph over visiting Mundelein.

Christy Roney (4 kills), Maggie Daleen (3) and Lauren Shechtman (3) were other top attackers for the defending Mid-Suburban League champs (1-1).

Setter Claire Waliczek collected 19 assists while top servers for the winners were Emily Watkins (5 aces), Ellie Lauderback (2) and Emily Casaletto (1) Thompson (11 digs), Waliczek (10) and Casaletto (8) led on defense.

Maine South d. Prospect: Visiting Maine South prevailed 25-20, 19-25, 25-23 as the Knights opened their season in the Jean Walker Field House.

Juniors Josie Sajbel (15-16, 5 kills) and Carly Thompson (8-9, 3 kills) led the attack for Prospect, which received 6 setting assists apiece from seniors Bree Geweniger (26 digs) and Maggie Haaning.

Thompson also had 3 blocks while senior Holly Hunt had 1.
