Tickets on sale at ECC for Rosanne Cash performance

Grammy-winning recording artist Rosanne Cash, daughter of country music legend Johnny Cash, will perform for one night only Saturday, Oct. 8, at Elgin Community College.

Tickets are on sale now at the ECC Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin, for the 7:30 p.m. performance. Cash will be joined in this special acoustic duo performance by her husband, John Leventhal.

Cash, the eldest child of Johnny Cash and his first wife, Vivian Liberto, honed her skills while performing with her late father. As a solo artist, Cash’s music blurs the genres of country, rock, roots, and pop in the 12 albums she has recorded.

In her 30-plus year career, Cash has produced 11 number one country singles, earned a 1985 Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female, for her hit “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me,” and received nine Grammy nominations.

Her latest album is 2009’s The List, which was nominated for a 2010 Grammy. The album’s title and selections derive from a list of 100 essential country songs that her father compiled for her upon learning she lacked a deep understanding of the genre while performing with him on his road show. She recalled him telling her these songs, which document every critical juncture in country music, was “her education and she should learn them all.”

“I looked to that list as a standard of excellence, and to remind myself of the tradition from which I come,” says Cash. “This album enables me to validate the connection to my heritage rather than run away from it, and to tie all the threads together: past and future, legacy and youth, tradition, timelessness, and the pull of the unknown.”

Cash is also a writer, publishing collection of short stories, “Bodies of Water,” in 1995, and a children’s book, “Penelope Jane: A Fairy’s Tale,” in 2000. Composed, her long-awaited memoir, was published in 2010. Additionally, her essays and fiction have appeared in various collections and publications, including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, The Oxford American, and New York Magazine.
