Krzysko delivers for Barrington

State softball powers Fremd and Barrington gave their ace pitchers a rest for Monday's final Mid-Suburban West conference game.

But the streak of terrific games between the two teams hardly took a rest.

In a close encounter all the way, Barrington junior Kiersten Tinkoff became the hitting star when she clubbed a 2-run double that spun toward the left field line to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh and it stood up for a 5-3 win.

"She is a big-time player," said Barrington coach Perry Peterson. "She'll hit anyone."

Freshman Loren Krzysko (2-0) finished her complete game in the bottom of the seventh by retiring the side, including a nifty over-the-shoulder falling grab of a pop foul by first baseman Tinkoff (2-for-4).

A 14-year old rookie, Krzysko struck out two while tossing a 7-hitter.

Fremd junior Stacey Hnytka (first 4 innings) and sophomore Rachel Doering (last 3 innings) threw for the West champion Vikings (25-4, 14-2), who host East champ Elk Grove (29-4, 15-1) for Thursday's MSL championship. Barrington (29-4, 13-3) finished as the West runner-up.

"We knew Fremd is a very good team but we knew we could do it," Krzysko said. "Kristin (Kuhn, Fillies receiver) caught an awesome game. She was great."

Kuhn put down a sacrifice bunt in the seventh to get Colleen Shandley (reached on error) to second base with one out. Liz Owen then delivered the base hit to left to tie the game at 3-3.

"We needed this win to get momentum for the playoffs," said Owen, who was 2-for-4 as was teammate Jordan Wekony.

Fremd jumped ahead 2-0 with an RBI single by Jenny Schneider in the first and sacrifice fly by Megan Hubbard in the second. Hubbard drove in Kelly Voigt, who hit a leadoff triple to right-center.

Owen had an RBI double in the third but Fremd went ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the inning on a fielder's choice by Voigt that brought home Lauren Zaworski. Kristen Werling reached base three times for Fremd.

"Overall I'm happy," said Fremd coach Jim Weaver. "We played good defense. Offensively we hit the ball well. I was glad to see our other kids get at-bats. I'm proud of how they played."

Prospect 5, Wheeling 2: Right fielder Jen Forssander celebrated her Senior's Day by going 2-for-3 with a solo home run over the left-center field fence in the second and an RBI single for the host Knights (12-17, 9-7).

Freshman Michele Molini also had an RBI single for Prospect, which received a 4-hitter from junior southpaw Sam Mangrum (8-9).

Sara Kern (RBI) doubled for the Wildcats (5-20, 1-15) and Becky Menelle had an RBI.

Hersey 3, Buffalo Grove 2: Trailing 2-0 and with no one on base and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, host Hersey (9-22, 5-11) rallied for 3 runs to pull out another thriller.

Haley Henriksen drew a walk followed by Alyssa Kieffer's single. Stacey Schmiederer then collected an RBI single to shallow right to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Taylor Reeves singled to right-center to tie the game at 2-2 before Danielle Becker singled up the middle for the game-winner, giving Kristy Johnson (3 strikeouts) the win.

Andrea DiPrima belted a 2-run homer to give the Bison the lead in the first inning.

"The kids are playing well now," said Hersey coach Molly Freeman. "And that's what you want at this time of the season."

Schaumburg 13, Hoffman 1: Nicole Chase was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI for visiting Schaumburg (21-10, 9-7) while Alyssa Lancaster (3-for-3), Angela Carrevetta (2-for-3), Ally Poehlmann (2-for-4), Becca Thompson (2-for-4) were other top hitters for the winners.

Nikki Roehrig doubled for the Hawks (3-21, 2-14).

Palatine 6, Conant 1: Visiting Palatine (19-13, 9-7) did not commit an error as it pulled to within one win of a seventh 20-win season in eight years under coach Jeff Manz.

Joanne Jablonski went 3-for-4 with a double for the Pirates. Katie Mnichowicz and Sam Salomone each had 2 hits.

Chrissy Roto (11-10) threw a 5-hitter with 2 strikeouts.

Brianna Cavin (11-10) struck out eight for the Cougars (19-11, 7-9), who received a triple and double from Allie Bauch. Lauren Wozniak also had a pair of singles for the Cougars.

Elk Grove 5, Meadows 0: Stephanie Maday and Dani Goranson combined for a 2-hitter as host Elk Grove improved to 29-4 and finished 15-1 as champion in the East.

In her fourth and final at-bat, Jessica Balzano singled to right-center to keep alive her 30-game hitting streak.

Winning pitcher Maday (14-1) struck out four and walked one in the first four innings while Goranson (15-2) struck out eight of the nine batters she faced in the final three innings.

Sophomore Devan Parkison went 3-for-4 with a double and 1 run while Kristen Cetkovic also doubled for the Grens.

Maryclare Loughery and Sam Morgan had the hits for Meadows (18-14, 5-11).

Leyden 3, Addison Trail 2: Morgan Maize (18-3) struck out 10 and walked none while tossing a 2-hitter.

Bri Michels (1-2, 2 RBI), Dana Thomas (2-for-3, double) led the offense for the visiting Eagles (26-6, 10-1) in the West Suburban Gold.

Niles North 11, Maine West 5: Sophomore Alyssa Bojarski doubled while Elli Allwood had 2 RBI and Vanessa Bagneschi had an RBI for the Warriors (11-18, 5-4) in the Central Suburban North.
