St. Edward's Venlos a double winner

St. Edward senior Megan Venlos is now a two-sport state qualifier.

Venlos, who missed out on qualifying for last year's state track meet because of an ankle injury, punched her ticket to Eastern Illinois University's O'Brien Field Friday night by winning both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races at the Class 1A Rockford Christian sectional.

Venlos, who also qualified for state swimming the past three years, ran the 1,600 in 5:40.09 and the 3,200 in a time of 12:08.65.

Elgin Academy's Sarah Parker also qualified for state for the second straight year by winning the long jump in 15 feet, 6 inches.

And, Westminster Christian's Tanya Rogers will run at Eastern next weekend as she took second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:30.42.
