American Wind Band to perform 'Joyful Holiday Concert' Dec. 11

The American Wind Band will present a "Joyful Holiday Concert" on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Holiday music ideal for the entire family will be performed at 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave. Admission is free though donations are gladly accepted at the concert to help with expenses.

The directors have chosen selections that feature many well-loved Christmas songs included in them.

Some to be performed include "Christmas Rhapsody," "Our Winter Wonderland," "Secret Agent Santa" and "Winterfest."

Also on the program will be "The Eighth Candle," a prayer and dance for Hanukkah by American composer Steve Reisteter.

Three trumpet soloists, Tom Bieber, Doug Carmichael and Dave Simak, will be featured on American composer James Curnow's "Trumpeter's Winter Holiday."

American Wind Band, an adult community band based in Downers Grove, was created to encourage the understanding and appreciation of concert band literature through performance.

New members are always welcome at band rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove. No auditions are required.

The American Wind Band will continue its 2022-23 season with a Winter Concert on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church in Elmhurst.

More information about the band's becoming a member, eighth grade and high school 2023 scholarship audition information and requirements, or how to advertise in future programs is available at www.americanwindband.org. Money raised from ads will be used for necessary operating costs of a community band, including renting performance space, purchasing music, repairing and replacing equipment, purchasing insurance, printing costs, advertising, and renting a P.O. Box.
