CODCON Gaming Convention returns April 8-10

The College of DuPage Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Gaming Club will host its annual gaming convention, "CODCON XXV: 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition: Re-Roll!," Friday to Sunday, April 8-10.

It will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, at the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

CODCON XXV will include a variety of games and activities, including Dungeons and Dragons Adventure League, a Settlers of Catan qualifying tournament, Live Action Role Play and more.

"This is our big fundraiser for the club and many popular events will be returning from previous years," said club adviser and COD English professor James Allen. "Events like the Catan tournament and others may lead to even bigger ones down the line for us, so we really want people to geek out and have fun."

College of DuPage was unable to host CODCON for two years due to COVID-19 restrictions. Previous CODCON's have drawn more than 400 people to COD's campus.

For many Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Gaming Club members, this will be their first CODCON experience.

"This event's great because it's here in our own area," said club president Danielle Taylor. "It can help us build a sense of community together."

The artists and authors appearing at CODCON XXV include: Blake's Nerdy Jewels and Charms with custom jewelry and artwork; Raffael Coronelli with books, art displays; Dzhelasi with fan art, stickers, buttons, zines, and more; Morgan Fertig with fantasy artwork; cartoonist and author Ryan Francis; Hugo Negron, author of "Forging of a Knight"; and Owl Post Greetings featuring handmade greeting cards, decals, bookmarks, book bags, etc.

The featured vendors will be: Candi Coated Designs offering dice bags and more; Fair Game with role-playing game books and supplies, board games, etc.; Illinois Jules (Julie Swendsen) with toys, collectables, etc.; Joe Abboreno with custom artwork; and Space Gallery Online with geek merchandise .

The gaming slots will generally run from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with additional hours from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Advance registration fees are $12 for an all-weekend pass, $8 for two days or $5 for one day. At the door, it will be $7-$15.

Children age 6 to 12 get in at half-price, and children 5 or younger are free. Children 12 or younger must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older at all times.
