May 22 bike ride to benefit Midwest Shelter For Homeless Veterans
Are you looking for a good reason to get motivated and ride your bike this weekend?
Join a bike ride to benefit the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans in Wheaton on Sunday, May 22.
The ride will begin at 9 a.m. with a 40-mile ride for more experienced and faster paced riders. Or join them at 9:45 a.m. for a 20-mile social ride at a casual pace.
There will also be a 10:30 a.m. kids ride on the Illinois Prairie Path. The kids ride north on the Illinois Prairie Path and turn around at County Farm Road or sooner.
Donations to the shelter can be made before or after the ride or via the website, www.helpaveteran.org/donate.
Burger Social, 108 N. Hale St. in Wheaton, has generously donated their upstairs space for a social gathering after the ride.
There is no registration needed - just show up. This is not a race - just a fun ride.
All rides begin at the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 433 S. Carlton Ave. in Wheaton. All routes will be unsupported and on roads that are open. Please plan ahead and ride at your own risk.
T.J. Luby, a 32-year-old lifetime Wheaton resident, is passionate about biking.
You will see him on the roads getting his workout done during the week and can find him on the roads or on the path on the weekend doing what he loves - sometimes 100 miles in a day!
T.J. decided to turn his passion into something that could benefit our homeless veterans right here in Wheaton.
The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans provides affordable housing to low-income, single male and female veterans. Veterans must meet income guidelines, have stable income needed to consistently pay rent, and agree to maintain a sober lifestyle while a resident.
Supportive services are available to veterans to help them improve their overall quality of life including case management, employment services, assistance with obtaining mainstream and veteran benefits, and referrals to veteran-specific and community resources to assist veterans with improving their overall quality of life.
