Carol Stream club supports needy seniors with donation
The Carol Stream Woman's Club donated $400 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Senior Citizen Project to help sponsor an impoverished senior in the program. The club will donate a similar amount in the fall continuing a decade's long tradition of supporting the HSP's programs.
The Carol Stream Woman's Club was able to raise the money for a sponsorship by conducting an annual fashion show, and this year also hosted a wine tasting fundraiser. Club member Sharon Krohn said, “We love that we are a woman's club that is able to support a female senior. We also like that the HSP is a local charity helping local people.”
As stated on the Carol Stream Woman's Clubs website, “The Carol Stream Woman's Club is a philanthropic and social club that supports local organizations with time and monetary donations.” This is proven in the numerous years that the Carol Stream Women's Club has been able to contribute to HSP's mission. Karole Kettering, Executive Director of HSP said, “The Carol Stream Woman's Club has been working with us since 1991 and they are truly dedicated to help service these low-income seniors alleviate daily struggles of poverty and lead happier more dignified lives.”
The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizens Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products, in addition to fresh fruits and vegetables. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift and Holiday Meal provided by HSP's volunteers.

About The Humanitarian Service Project:
HSP has been given the highest Four Star rating by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering Project, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides 100 low-income families with groceries and fresh produce during the summer months. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive that benefited a total of 5,200 children by giving supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair and directly to schools and individual children.
