Online Devotional Presented by The First United Methodist Church of Des Plaines

Lent is a season of reflection for all Christians, a time to think about what's important in their lives and to renew their faith. 40 Questions from "The Book of John" provides a daily Bible reading, a reflection, an original prayer, and a comments section open to everyone.

Although it is hosted on the First United Methodist website, fumcdp.org, neighbors from various Des Plaines churches, including the Bridge, St. Mary Catholic Church, and others, have volunteered to write each day's reflection.

Because they're hosted online, they're available 24/7. "Last year's devotional, The Prayers of Jesus, was viewed by hundreds of people, most in the area but some across the country", explains Walt Dibbern, who is leading the effort. "Some used them as a morning devotional, others at night after work. I myself would turn to them, at times, when I had trouble sleeping."

Dibbern says the devotional is open to all, even those who are not sure of their religious beliefs. "The Book of John is a beautiful book, written by the disciple who was closest to Jesus. The 40 reflections will take us through the entire book, and we'll explore what everyday people take from it."

You can access the devotional from the home page of fumcdp.org.
