Wheaton Rotary donates 840 backpacks to needy children

The Wheaton Rotary Club donated 840 backpacks to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP), of DuPage County.

The club has been an ardent supporter of HSP's various projects, dedicated to serving impoverished senior citizens and children in the area, since 1990. Club Service Director of the Wheaton Rotary Club, Roger Tully, delivered the generous donation to HSP.

All of the 840 backpacks, along with several other school supply donations, will be sent directly to local schools with large amounts of needy students within the DuPage and Kane counties. The donation was part of the club's backpack drive spearheaded by member, and retired Wheaton school administrator, Dr. Lori Belha, which raised in total over 1,500 backpacks. This large and generous donation of backpacks will bring much needed back to school excitement to the children within HSP's project who suffer from the pain that poverty brings to them.

Aug. 8 was the “DuPage County Back to School Fair”, where HSP volunteers and staff members delivered three entirely packed vans filled with numerous boxes of school supplies, ranging from notebooks to calculators, all to be donated to local schools in need.

Humanitarian Service Project's Executive Director and Co-Founder, Karole Kettering, says, “The Humanitarian Service Project would like to thank Robert Tully and all other members of the Wheaton Rotary Club for making this donation possible. HSP greatly appreciates the large donation and most importantly so will the needy children served in HSP's many projects.”

Humanitarian Service Project accepts school supply donations through October.
