College of DuPage to Host Electronics Recycling Event April 28

College of DuPage will partner with Universal Recycling Technologies to host its first Electronics Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, in the College 2 parking lot (located south of the Berg Instructional Center along College Road).

URT will reuse, refurbish and recycle materials using markets that comply with local, state and federal laws and regulations, following strict standards that have earned “E-Steward” certification. There is no charge to drop off items.

Items to be accepted include the following:

Televisions (portable, large screens, consoles)

Computer equipment and peripherals – monitors, laptops, CPUs, scanners, keyboards, mice, computer speakers, power cords, power supplies

Hand-held devices – cell phones, PDAs

Office equipment – printers, copiers, fax machines

Miscellaneous items –VCRs, DVD players, stereos

Ami Chambers, coordinator of Community Relations at College of DuPage, said the event is an extension of the College's efforts to be environmental stewards.

“College of DuPage is proud of its environmental efforts, from our LEED-certified new buildings to curriculum that incorporates sustainable industry practices,” she said. “This event comes one week after Earth Day, so it's a perfect way for us to help the community by collecting materials that will be disposed of properly.”

In addition, volunteers from COD student clubs will work at the event. URT will place a value on the materials collected, from which proceeds will be divided among the participating student clubs, Chambers said.
