Local agency supports community with Oct. 22 gala

Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS) will hold its 22nd Annual Harvest Gala on Oct. 22, 2011 at the Mid-America Club in downtown Chicago.

The Harvest Gala is LCFS' premier event to raise funds for needy individuals, children and families in communities throughout Illinois. Last year's event raised more than $200,000 for LCFS programs such as adoption, foster care, counseling, residential care facilities and a variety of community services.

Guests will be treated to a delicious meal and exciting auctions, while at the same time functioning as a community, raising money for programs that support and care for Illinois children, families and communities. The evening begins at 5:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception. Dinner and exciting live and silent auctions follow at 6:30 p.m.

In addition to raising funds to support LCFS programs, the gala includes a special initiative. The goal for this year's special initiative is to raise $25,000 toward the purchase of a mini-van to provide safe transportation for youth from Lutherbrook Child and Adolescent Center in Addison to and from different activities in that community. The van will also be used to help facilitate get-togethers for some of the Lutherbrook youth and their families.

The master of ceremonies for this year's gala is WGN-TV's Linda Kollmeyer. She is probably best known as the host of lottery drawings on WGN, but she has reached out to communities through jobs ranging from nurse to fitness instructor to actress. Linda's contagious enthusiasm is sure to add excitement to the evening.

This year's Harvest Gala committee is chaired by Brenna Woodley of Chicago. Other committee members include Jill Chapman of Chicago, Marian Fick of Oak Brook, Alex and Dianne Frantzis of Glenview, Brandon Greco of Downers Grove, Emily Jackson of Chicago, Chris and Ramona Koetke of Oak Park, Mark Lindeman of Des Plaines, Rev. F. Dean Lueking and Beverly Lueking of River Forest, Brenna Nunes of Palatine, Dave Roth of Oak Park, John Roberts of Oak Park and Gene and Carole Svebakken of Chicago.
