Former child soldier to speak Oct. 26 at the MAC

Former child soldier Michel Chikwanine shares his story of his childhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo and his work as a humanitarian at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

Chikwanine's talk is part of COD's College Lecture Series and will be held in the MAC's 783-seat Mainstage.

Growing up amid the Great War of Africa, Chikwanine witnessed the torture of his father and the rape of his mother. Forced to flee as a refugee at age 11, he and his mother moved to Canada. Since that time, Chikwanine has traveled to numerous African countries, witnessing the problems facing the developing world.

As a public speaker, he details both the horrors of his childhood and the beauty he's seen in developing nations, inspiring others with his candid thoughts on war and building a peaceful planet.

Tickets to Michel Chikwanine's Oct. 26 presentation are $10.
