The Rest of the Best in DuPage County
Downers Grove North (1-3, 0-1) at York (4-0, 2-0)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: Last week York again met its offensive goals by piling up 300-plus yards with no turnovers. Two losses by a combined 10 points put Downers North's back against the wall. With Glenbard West looming in Week 8, this is a must-win situation.
Fenton (2-2, 1-0) at Elmwood Park (1-3, 0-1)
Game time: 7 p.m. today.
The quick hit: The Bison rolled up 270 rushing yards and 130 passing yards last week behind the offensive line effort led by tackles Freddie Joyner and Charles Fleishacker. Linebacker-tight end Matt Szajnowski has been tremendous on both sides of the ball.
Glenbard North (4-0, 2-0) at West Chicago (1-3, 0-2)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: No team gets more from its talent than the Panthers. Proof's in the linebacker rotation of running backs Evin Natick and Phil Jackson and receiver Austin Siperly. West Chicago running backs Brad Wilson and Kyle Molskow are an effective pair.
Glenbard South (1-3) at Benet (2-2)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today at Benedictine University.
The quick hit: The Raiders have lost to Glenbard West, No. 3 in Class 7A, and Richwoods, No. 2 in 5A. With Benet quarterback Nick Mankowski suffering an ankle sprain last week, expect T.J. Rickert - who led a touchdown drive last week - to see some action.
Hinsdale South (2-2) at Hinsdale Central (1-3)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: By snaring another interception last week, Hinsdale South defensive back Ryan Johnson now has five on the season. With last week's defeat to Lyons Twp., Hinsdale Central's three losses have come against teams with a combined 12-0 record.
Lake Park (0-4, 0-2) at Bartlett (2-2, 0-1)
Game time: 1 p.m. Saturday, Millennium Field, Streamwood
The quick hit: Outscored 93-7 the last two games to put its backs to the wall, Lake Park simply needs positives to happen. It'll be tougher lacking offensive lineman Nick Borre (concussion) for at least this week, but linebacker Matt Mysliewiec will make a stand.
Lisle (1-3, 1-1) at Dwight (1-3, 1-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today
The quick hit: After a valiant effort in Wilmington's overtime win, the banged up Lions (Anthony Ventrella, Robbie Dean, Terrence Allen, Pat Heatherly) look to get healthy, but Dwight's proved a tough venue. Lions quarterback Nick Saul returns from his best game.
Marian Central (2-2) at Immaculate Conception (3-1)
Game time: 1 p.m. Saturday, Plunkett Field, Elmhurst
The quick hit: Good news: Last week IC sophomore call-up Sam Antes ran for 141 yards, 2 touchdowns. Bad news: Guerin passed for 422 yards. Marian, though, figures to come in pounding the ball on defensive linemen Joe Suareo, Bryan Palermo, Matt Hornstra.
Montini (2-2) at Aurora Central Catholic (2-2)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: Montini quarterback Matt Westerkamp (shoulder) returned last week with overall success in a 28-14 win over St. Francis. Still, the Broncos need to shore up a couple lost fumbles and an interception that squandered a 21-0 third-quarter lead.
Naperville Central (2-2, 1-1) at Glenbard East (3-1, 1-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: Last week lineman Jake Devoy helped the Redhawks sustain three drives of at least 10 plays. Running back Matt Randolph responded with 125 rushing yards. The Rams won last week behind receiver Kevin Priebe's 6 catches for 130 yards.
Proviso East (0-4, 0-1) at Addison Trail (2-2, 2-0)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: Proviso East suffered a third shutout loss last week and has scored only 6 points this season. Blazers quarterback Trevor Birmingham has settled in nicely. Former QB Anthony Catanese, meanwhile, continues to thrive everywhere he plays.
West Aurora (2-2, 0-2) at Wheaton North (3-1, 1-1)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: After scoring 75 points in nonconference action, West Aurora has scored 13 points in two DuPage Valley games. Wheaton North's offense was rolling until it ran into Glenbard North. Expect a big rebound from quarterback Reece Butler & Co.
Willowbrook (1-3, 1-1) at Downers Grove South (2-2, 1-0)
Game time: 7:30 p.m. today.
The quick hit: Willowbrook's James Bolden and Jabril Jones combined for 224 rushing yards last week. That kind of ball control will be critical against the West Suburban Gold-favored Mustangs and running back Josh Williams, who ran for 240 yards last week.
