Since 1991, the college's Judicial Services Department has offered the National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Courses for motorists who are under court supervision for minor traffic violations in Lake County.

Classes emphasize defensive driving habits, including rules of the road, collision prevention tactics and the everyday driving situations that motorists face. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.

The Best Performance Award is presented to those Defensive Driving Course training centers that lead the field in training safer motorists on the highways in their service area.

The Honorable Mention Award is presented to Defensive Driving Course training centers that, although the program or territory may be restricted, constantly strive to reach as many motorists as possible.

Judicial Services, part of the Workforce and Professional Development Institute at CLC, partners with the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in providing the defensive driving program in Lake County.
