BroadwayWorld gives three nods to Harper production of ‘Parade’

Harper College will get ready for the red carpet at the fan-driven BroadwayWorld Chicago Awards in January.

The Harper Ensemble Theatre Company’s production of “Parade” received three nominations in the categories (resident non-equity) of Best Direction of a Musical or Revue, Best Scenic Design and Best Revival of a Musical.

Director Kevin Long and designer Ashley Woods helped lead Harper’s rendition of the Tony Award-winning musical, which tells the tragic, true story of the trial and conviction of an innocent Jewish factory manager in 1913 Georgia.

Harper theater and speech team alumnus Hans Fleischmann also was nominated for Best Director for his critically acclaimed production of “The Glass Menagerie” at Chicago’s Mary-Arrchie Theatre.

One of Fleischmann’s first times on stage came as a Harper student in the mid-1990s when he scored a role in a campus production of the same play.

Fans can vote at broadwayworld.com/chicago through Dec. 31.
