Dec. 9-10: Auditions for CLC Theatre department's 'Twelfth Night'

Community members age 16 and up are invited to audition at 6:30 p.m. on either Dec. 9 or 10 for the CLC Theatre Department's winter production of “Twelfth Night, Or What You Will” by William Shakespeare. Auditions will be held in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Actors need only attend the Monday, Dec. 9 or Tuesday, Dec. 10, not both. They should prepare a two-minute memorized monologue from one of Shakespeare's plays or sonnets and bring an acting resume, if they have one. If called back, actors should be available on Thursday, Dec. 12 from 6:30-10 p.m.

Rehearsals will begin the week of Jan. 13, 2014. The play will be performed Feb. 28, March 1-2 and March 6-8, including a Friday morning show for high school students. Rehearsals are typically Monday through Thursday evenings (with possible weekend rehearsals based on cast availability) until tech week. Actors should make sure they have these dates/times free before auditioning.

“Twelfth Night” is a madcap tale of mistaken identity, wherein Viola and her twin brother are shipwrecked on Illyria—an enchanted place where everything is turned upside down and nothing is what it seems. Viola disguises herself as a man and falls hopelessly in love with Orsino, who thinks he loves Olivia. Olivia thinks she loves Cesario, who is really Viola, dressed as a man. Add to the mix a brooding steward in yellow stockings named Malvolio and the saucy Sir Toby Belch, and the stage is set for this achingly funny and profoundly beautiful Shakespearean masterpiece.
