Half of Burlington Central's hits were doubles and Jacob Schutta allowed just 4 hits in 6 innings as the Rockets downed North Boone 10-2 in Big Northern East baseball action Wednesday, solidifying their hold on first place in the conference.

Mike Lee, Blake Alexander (RBI), Bryan Cynova (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Ryan Schuring (2-for-2), Danny Gerke (2-for-4, RBI) and Drew Wiss each had doubles for Burlington Central (10-8, 9-2), while Josh Lung had 2 RBI and Cody Schuver (3-for-4) drove in a run. Schutta struck out 5 and walked 3.

Westminster Christian 8, Walther Lutheran 2: Will Woodhouse (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Chase Woods (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) led the Warriors to a nonconference win. Luke Weston also went 2-for-4 for Westminster (9-8) and John Wawro picked up the win on the mound, going 5 innings and allowing just 2 hits.

Prairie Ridge 3, Hampshire 2: Piotr Barnas had 3 doubles and an RBI for the Whip-Purs in this Fox Valley Conference loss. Brandon Wescher had a double and Tyler Crater drove in a run for Hampshire (10-12, 3-11 FBC Fox). Andrew Brown took the loss for the Whips, allowing 7 hits in 6 innings.

Wauconda 2, Cary-Grove 1: Patrick Serowka and Daniel Vilardo each had doubles and Andrew Splitt drove in Cary-Grove's only run in this nonconference loss. Serowka was the losing pitcher for the Trojans (16-7).

Huntley 4, Carmel 3: Trevor Symbal (2-for-4, RBI) and Nick Cusumano (RBI) each doubled for Huntley and Troy Cantu had a triple as the Red Raiders won in nonconference action. Kuyle Sable was the winning pitcher for Huntley (21-3), striking out 5 in the final 3 innings.

St. Charles East 4, Elgin 3: Elgin's late rally fell short in this Upstate Eight River game. Isaac Narayan (2-for-4, 2B), Brandon Higdon (3-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Alex Duttell (2-for-4, HR) led the Maroons (6-16, 5-14). Jon Zima was the losing pitcher.

Elgin Academy 13, Francis Parker 7: Winning pitcher Max Swienton was 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI to lead the Hilltoppers to an Independent School League win. Swienton struck out 15 and allowed 6 hits. Gannon Cattone (4-for-4, 2B), Zach Bohenick (3 hits, 2B) and Jumel Julien (3 hits, 3B) also contributed for Elgin Academy (9-1, 9-1).

Deerfield 2, Jacobs 1: Connor Conzelman had a double and an RBI for Jacobs in this nonconference loss. Ryan Downing was the losing pitcher for the Golden Eagles (16-9).
