Wilterdink, Libertyville win at North Chicago

Sophomore guard Mary Wilterdink scored a game-high 13 points, and Libertyville’s girls basketball team defeated host North Chicago 50-37 in a North Suburban Conference crossover for its fourth win in five games.

Wilterdink, who played on varsity as a freshman, sank a pair of 3-pointers.

“Mary has really turned a corner for us, offensively and defensively,” Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. “She has potential and tonight she used it.”

Libertyville (8-10) also received 11 points from Dan Kym.

Zion-Benton 64, Lakes 49: The host Eagles dropped the North Suburban crossover, despite Terese McMahon scoring a game-high 23.

“Despite being smaller, Terese McMahon showed why she is one of the best in the county, taking it to the basket and finishing in some rather large traffic,” Lakes coach Pete Schneider said. “Terese has been a little sick, like the rest of the team, and today she played very well.”

Lakes (10-9) trailed by just eight with five minutes to play. The Eagles were down 12-7 after one quarter and 24-18 at halftime. The Zee-Bees had an 8-0 run in the third quarter and led by as many as 15 points.

“The (final) score is not indicative of the game,” Schneider said. “We played hard and well against a good team. We just could not get over the hump all night.”

Amanda Smith had 8 points and 11 assists for Lakes.

“Amanda Smith did another great job handling tough pressure,” Schneider said. “Zion sent two or sometimes three players to trap Amanda, and she did a great job finding the open player.”

Zion-Benton was led by Southern Illinois Edwardsville-bound Syerra Cunningham. The Waukegan transfer scored 20 points.

“I wish we had talented kids like Sierra moving into our district,” Schneider said with a smile. “She is tough.”

Antioch 61, Lake Zurich 49: Megan Borries scored 14 of her 19 points in the second half, and Paige Gallimore posted another double-double, as the host Sequoits won the North Suburban crossover.

Gallimore finished with 15 points (two 3-pointers), 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Alex Fracek added 8 points and 7 rebounds for Antioch (13-6). The Sequoits scored 27 points in the fourth quarter, hitting 15 of 17 free throws.

Sara Gazdacka has 19 points for Lake Zurich, and Sarah Stefaniu added 11.

Grant 50, Lake Forest 37: Kaylie Kanzler’s 11 points, including two 3-pointers, helped the host Bulldogs snap a three-game losing streak.

Grant (7-12) also got 8 points from McKenzie Burton and 7 from Jasmine Sangster.

Warren 51, Round Lake 29: Alyssa Phillips had 21 points and 7 rebounds for the visiting Blue Devils in the North Suburban crossover.

Aurianna Hampton added 9 points for Warren (10-7), which won its third in a row,

Bianca Mahoney’s 10 points paced Round Lake.
