Be an informed voter; visit a candidate forum

The League of Women Voters of McHenry has lined up several forums to help you get to know who’s running for some of our local offices.

The first one has been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at McHenry County College. McHenry County Board candidates from districts one, two, and three are expected to attend.

The next forum will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at McHenry County College. McHenry County Board candidates from districts four, five and six have been invited.

The league is still trying to determine who will be featured at the Sept. 28 and Sept. 29 forums. Candidates from the county board, 14th congressional district and the 52nd House of Representatives have been invited to attend. The times have yet to be announced, but the venue is McHenry County College.

Help Support NISRA: The Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association, which offers mental health programs for at-risk youth, has put together a charity golf outing for women.

The golf outing will be held Sept. 18 at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee.

Women of all ages and ability levels are invited to play a round of nine holes.

Special contests in keeping with this year’s jungle theme, prizes, raffles, gifts and a lunch, are part of this noncompetitive event which benefits NISRA’s programs for youth. Players can also bid on a male caddie that will provide treats and assistance on the golf course.

Sponsors include Centegra Health System, Environ International Corporation, Home State Bank, Miller Verchota, Inc., and Liberty Lanes.

Got antiques? The organizers of West Dundee’s Heritage Fest are looking for antique collectors and dealers to display their wares during the three-day festival.

The antique show will be staged in Grafelman Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 15 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16. During both days, an appraiser will be available to tell antique owners the value of their items. Heritage Fest will begin Sept. 14.
