Sierra Club to offer free Earth Day events in Palatine

The Northwest Cook County Group of the Sierra Club will offer free events to area residents in celebration of Earth Day 2012.

Local outdoor photographer Mike MacDonald will lead an Illinois prairie photography presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine. Register at illinois.sierraclub.org/nwcook.

The main event will be Saturday, April 21, at Deer Grove East Forest Preserve, off Dundee Road near Palatine. Lunchtime guests include Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Debra Shore, commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Grove 2, volunteers will do ecological restoration work. At noon, a free lunch will be served accompanied by a talk by Preckwinkle.
