Arlington Heights teens charged with firing guns

Two Arlington Heights teens are accused of shooting guns from the windows and doors of a home Friday. Both face a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Police found ammunition, bullet holes and weapons in a home on the 0 to 100 block of North Rammer Avenue in Arlington Heights where Andrew Kovacik, 19, and Paul Padlo, 18, were firing shots at a garbage can outside the home, Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine said Saturday in Cook County bond court in Rolling Meadows.

A neighbor heard the shots and called police, who went to the home and found both teens inside. Padlo, a Prospect High School senior who lives at the Rammer Avenue address, gave permission to search the home, Levine said.

Police determined the teens were shooting a 30-caliber M1 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun and were endangering the bodily safety of at least two of their neighbors.

No one was injured in the gun firings, authorities said.

Bail was set at $60,000 for Padlo, whom Levine said has a prior arrest in Arlington Heights for aggravated robbery. He would have to pay $6,000 to be released on bond.

Bail was set at $20,000 for Kovacik, a Harper College student who has no prior criminal background. He would have to post $2,000 to be released on bond.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear in court April 13.
