College of DuPage presents 'Nature' at Humanities Festival March 3-4

Explore questions of nature and how we exist in, through, and perhaps beyond the natural world at "Nature," a humanities festival at College of DuPage, on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 3-4, at the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The two-day festival features lectures and presentations from college faculty, instructors and staff from a vast array of disciplines. All events are free and open to the public.

The festival opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2201 with "Mindfulness of Nature," a presentation from COD Mental Health Counselor Dennis Emano.

Subsequent sessions throughout the festival include:

• March 3: "The Nature of Peace: Thich Nhat Hanh's Mindfulness Practices and His Poetry" by Robert William Dixon-Kolar from 10 to 10:50 a.m.; "Climate Cinema: Change and Crisis on Screen" by Brian Brems from 11 to 11:50 a.m.; "Connecting with Nature through Forest Bathing" by Linda Karlen from 12:15 to 12:50 p.m.; "How Wilderness Preservation Harms Developing Nations" by Jonathan Parson from 1 to 1:50 p.m.; and "The Incredible, Invisible You" by Peter Kanetis from 2 to 2:50 p.m.

• March 4: "On Nature and Freedom: From Rousseau to Marx" by Josh Price from 10 to 10:50 a.m.; "Second Nature: Captivity and Zoo Aesthetics" by David Ouellette from 11 to 11:50 a.m.; "The Monarchs of Pilsen" by Tim Arroyo from 1 to 1:50 p.m.; and "Wanderlust: Seeking Unity with Nature" by Miglena Nikolova from 2 to 2:50 p.m.

Additional programming includes a screening of the documentary "Virunga Congo" as part of the college's Global Flicks movie series at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in Belushi Performance Hall at the McAninch Arts Center.

On March 3, the Humanities Fest is partnering with The Asia Symposium which will offer additional programing in SRC 2000 from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Later in the month, artist and lecturer Mary Mattingly will discuss issues of sustainability, climate change and displacement as part of the Visiting Artist Series at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in Belushi Performing Hall.
