COD names 2012 Woman of Distinction Award winner
The College of DuPage Women's Studies Committee has named Colleen Heflin of Woodridge its 2012 Adade Wheeler Woman of Distinction Award recipient.
Heflin was honored at a reception at the College on Wednesday, March 28, which featured guest speaker North Park University History Professor Theodora Ayot.
Heflin is a sexual violence support services advocate for the YWCA. She has chaired the Take Back the Night DuPage and serves as president of the DuPage chapter of the National Organization for Women
She is also a member of the DuPage Juvenile Officers Association, a member of Public Affairs through the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and has volunteered for Youth Outlook, a program that support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered youth.
The Woman of Distinction Award, given annually since 1983, recognizes residents, workers or volunteers within Community College District 502 who have made significant contributions to the personal and professional advancement of women through education, advocacy and motivation.
