100+ Women Who Care group donates $11,100 to aid needy

The 100+ Women Who Care DuPage County Chapter has provided $11,100 to aid the needy in the area by donating it to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP.) The funds were given to be used at HSP's discretion to allocate to their various initiatives to assist the needy in the area. Some of HSP's projects include the Senior Citizen Project which provides 120 needy seniors with 90 lbs of groceries and other support monthly, and the Children's Birthday Project which provides gifts to 700 impoverished children at their birthdays and Christmas.

The 100+ Women Who Care are devoted to serving DuPage County by funding local charities. The group has a unique fundraising method. Each member of the group donates $100 at each of the group's 4 meetings every year. Local charities are nominated by the members, and three charities are chosen to be presented to the group. The members then vote to determine which charity will be receiving the donation from that meeting. According to Sally Wierda, the group's President, they have donated approximately $200,000 since being founded in 2007. HSP was voted the recipient from the group's most recent meeting. The 100+ Women Who Care meet next on November 8th at the Holiday Inn in Carol Stream.

Karole Kettering, Co-founder and Executive Director of HSP, said HSP was ecstatic to have been chosen by the 100+ Women Who Care. “The 100+ Women Who Care group has certainly been very generous and creative in making a huge difference in the lives of those affected by poverty in the area.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP is given the highest honor charity by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year. HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
