College of DuPage Hosts Woman of Distinction Reception April 20

The College of DuPage Women's Study Group will host a reception and award ceremony honoring the 2016 Woman of Distinction at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Technical Education Center, Room 1038 on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The event is free and open to the public.

Named for former COD History Professor Adade Wheeler, the award has been given annually since 1983 to individuals who have made significant contributions to the personal and professional advancement of women through education, advocacy and motivation.

A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the award presentation at 7 p.m. The event features keynote speaker local artist and curator Donna Castellanos. Castellanos will present her latest body of work and lead a workshop for participants to create their own piece to take home. Castellanos creates pieces from found objects, rescuing items form estate sales and thrift stores to create paintings, sculptures and jewelry. She is an art instructor and studio manager at the Elmhurst Art Museum and teaching classes and workshops for children and adults. Additionally, Castellanos serves are art director and curator for Flight 112 in Elmhurst.
