COD to host free sustainability film and discussion series this spring
The College of DuPage will host a series of four free film screenings focused on sustainable energy this spring beginning Tuesday, March 6.
All screenings will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Health and Science Center, Room 1234, on the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. These screenings are free and open to the public.
Featuring award-winning films covering a variety of issues related to contemporary energy use and sustainable practices, this series is designed to promote film as a tool for education, civic engagement and activism in the movement to build sustainable and resilient communities and protect natural resources for future generations.
A Q&A discussion will take place after each screening. Attendees are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of each film for additional information on the environmental topic addressed in the film and to connect with local community organizations on ways to tackle the issues raised in the film.
• "Wasted! The Story of Food Waste" on Tuesday, March 6. Part of the One Earth Film Festival, this film aims to change the way people buy, cook, eat and recycle food by exposing the criminality of food waste and how it directly contributes to climate change.
• "After the Spill" on Thursday, March 8. Part of the One Earth Film Festival and co-sponsored by the Glen Ellyn Environmental Commission, this screening addresses the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on the Louisiana coast and even worse dangers facing Louisiana's coastline today.
• "The True Cost" on Wednesday, April 18. While the price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically. This film tells the story of the clothes we buy and wear, the people who produce them and the impact of the clothing industry on the world and human lives.
• "Bee People" on Monday, April 30. This film provides an in-depth look at the people who are facing the challenge on behalf of bees, making a difference and urging everyone to join them on a planet-saving mission.
