College of DuPage Forensics Team Places Third at State Tourney

The College of DuPage Forensics Team finished third in the two-year division at the recent Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association tournament, while Mahera Suhail of Woodridge finished first in the two-year division for Oral Interpretation.

In addition to Suhail, the following COD students placed in the final rounds in the two-year division:

Victoria Cruz (Brookfield): Third place, Persuasive Speaking

Sabrina Thomas (Downers Grove): Fourth place, Persuasive Speaking; Fifth Speaker, Debate

Michael Neal (Glen Ellyn): Fourth Speaker, Debate

Rocky Roque (Bensenville): Sixth place, Prose Interpretation

In the open division, COD student Farris Ahmad (Naperville) took eighth place for Impromptu Speaking.

The College of DuPage Forensics Team is coached by Lauren Morgan, Jude Geiger, Melissa Gomez, Mia Poston, Matt Beifuss, and Kelsey Figiel. The IIFA tournament was held at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. The COD team next will travel to the Phi Rho Pi Regional IV Tournament at Elgin Community College on March 25 and 26. The team's annual Night of Gold showcase of award-winning speech and debate performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 29 and 30, in the Student Life Lounge, located on the first floor of the Student Services Center.
