'Sustain DuPage' Hosts Inaugural DuPage County Environmental Symposium March 12
The nonprofit organization Sustain DuPage will host its inaugural DuPage County Environmental Commission & Committee Symposium on Saturday, March 12. The event will feature environmental commissioners from DuPage County municipalities who will discuss success and challenges facing their communities.
The College of DuPage Environmental Club was selected by Sustain DuPage to host the symposium at 10 a.m. (CST) at the College's Glen Ellyn campus. While the event is not open to the general public, the symposium will be live streamed through You Tube, with the link available at www.SustainDuPage.com and on Sustain DuPage's Facebook and Twitter accounts two weeks prior to the event.
As part of the symposium, COD Environmental Club President Natasha Gonzalez will lead a discussion about opportunities for public engagement in DuPage sustainability efforts.
Sustain DuPage is working with Universities and Colleges throughout Northern Illinois and the Midwest to plan events that might serve as case-studies for students heading into the Environmental field.
The mission of this March 12 event is to inspire Environmental Commissions & Committees (COMMs) members to come together in community to strive for excellence. Ideal outcomes would include investments in sustainability infrastructures that ensure maximum fiduciary responsibility; greater cohesion and continuity for DuPage sustainability policies and enforcement; an interchange between neighbor-municipalities leading to enhanced community enrichment, camaraderie and quality of life; the fostering of a synergistic impetus to move quickly to transition DuPage County away from fossil fuels in an effort to secure the safety of communities; encouraging DuPage municipalities without an Environmental COMM to create one; and laying the groundwork for the founding of the DuPage County Environmental Commission & Committee Coalition with biannual meetings of all DuPage COMM members.
