Parents, Educators Can Learn about Preventing Childhood Obesity

College of DuPage Continuing Education/Extended Learning will offer two courses during the spring semester to help parents and educators learn how to prevent childhood obesity.

“Functional Childhood Obesity Prevention for Education Professionals” will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23. “Functional Childhood Obesity Prevention for Parents” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 15. Both courses will provide practical tools that will help motivate kids to immunize themselves against obesity.

The seminars are offered in conjunction with “Kids Beating Obesity,” a weekly, 30-minute radio program produced by WDCB FM Public Radio in Glen Ellyn. Co-hosted by local sports podiatrist Dr. Bob Weil (host of “The Sports Doctor” on WDCB) and former teacher and coach Rick Osbourne (who has written two books on the prevention of childhood obesity), “Kids Beating Obesity” approaches the topic of prevention from a variety of perspectives. Listeners can go to www.WDCB.org and simply select New Media, then WDCB Podcasts, and “Kids Beating Obesity.”

Each course costs $44 and will meet on campus in the Health and Science Center, Room 3301. To register for a course or for more information, call Continuing Education/Extended Learning at (630) 942-2208.
