Janus Theatre offers actors workshop April 16

Janus Theatre will offer an acting workshop, "How To Bring It To Rehearsal Every Time!" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St., downtown Elgin. The fee is $45. Interested actors should call (847) 682-9008 to reserve their spot. This is the first workshop presented by Janus Theatre in 2011.

The workshop is designed to help actors improve their efficiency and effectiveness during the rehearsal process. Waste less time; accomplish more. Topics to be covered include scene work, levels of conflict, immediacy on stage, using the text or script, the use of style, working scene partners on stage, and working with different directors. Actors are encouraged to wear loose-fitting clothes and comfortable footwear.

Terry Domschke has been actively involved in theater throughout the Fox Valley and Chicago areas. He is a co-founder of Janus Theatre and currently serves as the artistic director emeritus for the company. He is the former artistic director for the Renaissance Repertory, Synquest Players and was the founder and director of the theater program at Elgin Community College for more than 25 years. He directed more than 200 productions throughout his career, including professional, community and educational theater. He has studied acting and directing extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. And he has had the opportunity to learn from and work with such distinguished directors as Michael Langhum (Guthrie Theatre), Tomas Mac Anna (Abbey Theatre), Jon Jory (Actors Theatre of Louisville), Kristen Linklater (Stratford Shakespeare festival) and Li Chun (Beijing Opera).

Janus Theatre Company is a nonprofit theater, founded in 1998, that creates intimate theatrical experiences bringing the audience and actor closer together. In 2010, Janus produced the first Elgin Short Play Festival, featuring the work of Theresa Rebeck, a commemorative production of The Guys by Ann Nelson; featuring an art installation by renowned artist George Kokines, entitled “September 11,” a new version of Shakespeare's Macbeth, and the company also won this year's Best in Show Award at the annual Walkabout: Theater on Your Feet. Janus has produced over 50 productions, performing in Chicago, Arlington Heights, Elgin, St. Charles, Schaumburg, and the London Fringe Theatre Festival, where it won the Impresario Award for most popular production in 2004. In 2009, producing director Sean Hargadon was presented with Downtown Neighborhood Association's President Award for Janus Theatre's active participation in revitalizing Elgin's downtown.
