Traveling exhibit on display at COD until March 14

A collection of works by printmaking students and alumni from the Universidad de Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico, are on display through Monday, March 14, in the Wings Student Gallery in the Student Resource Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

"Grafica Contemporanea Veracruzana” is a traveling exhibition exchange initiative by COD art instructor Teresa Parker.

While the college is hosting an exhibition this spring, the university in Mexico will host an exhibit of COD student works this fall or early next year.

Parker traveled to Xalapa last summer through a visiting artist program and quickly developed the idea of the exhibit exchange with university staff.

“That particular art program is one of the best, and I definitely wanted my students to be exposed to that,” she said. “This is the first time the Veracruzana works have been on display in the United States. They're very colorful, bright and contemporary.”

The exchange gives COD students a more global view of printmaking, exposing them to culturally diverse fellow artists.

“This is the beginning stages of what I hope is an ongoing collaboration,” she said.

The free exhibit is on display at the Wings Gallery in the COD Student Resource Center. The gallery is open noon to 12:45 p.m. and 4 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays; 2 to 7 p.m. Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays.
