The Global Education Association of Glen Ellyn is seeking volunteers to host professors from China July 13-Aug. 16. Host families will be paid $150 per guest, per week, with a maximum of two visitors per home. Hosts are required to provide a separate room with a bed and clean linens; simple meals and transportation to and from a Metra station four days per week. Purchase raffle tickets by June 28 for the Lombard Historical Society's Quilt Sweepstakes fundraiser. The Hinsdale Humane Society will celebrate Adopt-A-Cat Month throughout June with a variety of events and activities. Families who adopt a cat or kitten during June will have their photo taken with their adopted pet that will displayed in the shelter's lobby. Those who adopt in June also will receive a special Adopt-A-Cat gift bag and will be entered into a raffle for cat-related prizes. Alternative rockers Vertical Horizon will headline a benefit concert June 26 at Downers Grove's Heritage Festival. Gates open at 5 p.m. at the library parking lot near the beer garden stage. The opening act, local band Shock Stars, will take the stage at 7 p.m. Vertical Horizon follows. Proceeds benefit restoration efforts at the 1846 Blodgett House, one of the oldest homes in Downers Grove and a stop on the Underground Railroad. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The People's Resource Center Southeast, 649 Blackhawk, Westmont, is seeking volunteers for its food pantry. Shifts will be available from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesdays starting July 2 and from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays starting July 10. Duties will include stocking shelves, registering and assisting clients, picking up donations and unloading food. PRC Southeast serves residents of Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lisle, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Westmont, Willowbrook and Woodridge. The Community Bank of Elmhurst 4 on the 4th will be at 7:15 a.m. July 4 at Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect Ave. Proceeds from the four-mile CARA circuit race will benefit the Elmhurst Children's Assistance Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides various types of financial assistance to local families facing life-threatening or disabling illnesses. Prizes will include gift certificates and items donated by local businesses. The DuPage Habitat for Humanity golf outing fundraiser will be Aug. 11 at Klein Creek Golf Course, 1N333 Pleasant Hill Road, Winfield. Registration and lunch begin at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon, cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner, raffle and awards at 6 p.m. The cost is $150 per person and $600 per foursome, which includes a welcome bag, lunch, greens fees, cart and dinner.
