Green infrastructure, water issues focus of next Fox Valley Sustainability Network Forum

The Fox Valley Sustainability Network, a public/private sector initiative in the Fox Valley designed to create healthy, sustainable communities and a vibrant Fox Valley, announced that its next forum will focus on "Green Infrastructure and Water Issues."

The forum will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, 3795 Campton Hills Drive in St. Charles. The center is host and sponsor of the forum.

The main program will address topics such as the Fox River Water Trail Initiative and the Chicago Region Trees Initiative. It will provide an update on the campaign for green infrastructure and sustainability in the Fox Valley.

The agenda and speakers include:

• An update on the Wisconsin-Illinois Fox River Water Trail Initiative by Karen Miller, Kane County;

• An update on the Campaign for Green Infrastructure & Sustainability in the Fox Valley by Jeff Mengler of Hey and Associates Inc.;

• Fox Valley Monarch Corridor & Pollinator Meadow Mix by Dan Lobbes of the Conservation Foundation;

• "Conservation in Our Community" by Trish Beckjord of the Conservation Foundation;

• Chicago Region Trees Initiative by Lydia Scott of Morton Arboretum;

• Chicago Community Trees Program by Beth Corrigan of Morton Arboretum.

Pam Otto, manager of nature programs and interpretive services at Hickory Knolls Discovery Center, will welcome forum attendees and discuss the green features of the center's new building. After the main program, Otto will lead a tour of the center's aquaponics display.
