Volunteer to be a winter coach for Special Olympics

The Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association is seeking volunteer coaches for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and rhythmic gymnastics.

Adults with experience in these winter sports who would like to share their talent with the athletes should contact Jourdan at the NISRA office at (815) 459-0737, ext. 248, or e-mail jthunberg@nisra.org.

An orientation to Special Olympics will be provided.

Rhythmic gymnastics meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Dec. 5 to Feb. 27, at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.

Cross country skiing and snowshoeing practices will last for four weeks on both Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m., beginning Dec. 7.

Dry land practices will be at The Centre of Elgin and outdoor practices will be at Wing Park on Elgin's west side.

All teams will have a break for the holidays and a competition day in 2017; contact Jourdan for details.

The Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association provides recreation programs for children and adults with disabilities in 13 communities in McHenry County and nearby Cook, Kane and Lake counties.
