Efflandt returns in Cary-Grove win

Cary-Grove 3, Lakes 1: Cary-Grove senior Lindsay Efflandt, injured by a line drive to the face on April 22, returned to the circle for the first time since then to pitch the final 3 innings of this nonconference win. Not only did she only face 9 batters with 4 strikeouts, she also drove in Sarah Leudo (3-for-3, HR) with an insurance run in the sixth inning. Amy Clemment also had an RBI for the Trojans (10-4) and Amanda DeGroote (2-0) started in the circle and earned the win, allowing 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

South Elgin 11, Elgin 10: In a matchup of Upstate Eight teams who will play each other next week in a Class 4A St. Charles North regional semifinal, JV call-up Rachel Ziemba pitched the final 4 innings, allowing 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks as the Storm scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to prevail. Freshman Cassidy Westlund (2-for-4, 2 RBI) hit her first career home run and had a double for South Elgin (17-12, 11-7). Adding to the Storm’s 16-hit attack were Kara Rodriguez (4-for-5, HR, 2B, 4 RBI), Alyssa Buddle (2-for-5), Brittany Koss (2-for-5, 2 doubles, RBI), Sam Helton (2-for-4, RBI), Demi Queen (2B, RBI) and Paige Allen (2-for-4). Victoria Watt also had an RBI. For Elgin (12-14, 6-12), Anna Eckhol was 2-for-5 with a double, Jennah Perryman was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Kelly Bremer went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Monica Stockman drove in a run, Caroline Sobeski was 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI and losing pitcher Jessica Rago had a home run and 3 RBI.

Jacobs 5, Woodstock North 0: Alyssa Lach was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a triple and Emily Borg had a double and 3 RBI for Jacobs (16-14) in this FVC crossover. Kelsey Peters allowed 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks to earn the win for the Golden Eagles (16-14).

CL South 2, Grayslake Central 0: Hailee Massie threw a 4-hitter with 12 strikeouts and 1 walk as the Gators won this FVC crossover. Sam McLean (2-for-4) had a home run for Crystal Lake South (14-9), while Jenica Terry was 3-for-3.

St. Edward 10, Marian Central 1: Ashley Gradisher was 3-for-3 and Julie Larson went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI to lead the Green Wave to a Suburban Christian win. Ryann Scully had a triple and 3 RBI for St. Edward (13-12), which won its fourth straight. Lindsay Zdroik (8-6) was the winning pitcher, striking out 8 and walking 2 while allowing 3 hits in 4 innings.

McHenry 12, Dundee-Crown 2: Casey Weeks’ 2-run home run and Mallory Shilf’s single were Dundee-Crown’s only hits in this FVC Valley loss. Lauren Girard was the losing pitcher for the Chargers (3-20, 0-11).

St. Charles North 14, Streamwood 1: Brittany Delao was 2-for-3 with a double for Streamwood in the UEC River. Kaitlyn Hedger took the loss for the Sabres (5-20, 2-15).
