Rolling Meadows maintains East edge

Rolling Meadows earned a 25-18, 25-21 victory over Elk Grove on Thursday to improve 7-2 in the Mid-Suburban East and maintain a half-game lead over Prospect for the divisional lead.

Peter Nickle had 15 digs for the host Mustangs (17-4), who have earned the No. 3 seed in the Bartlett sectional.

Brett Frey had 10 digs and 22 setting assists, and the top attackers for Rolling Meadows were Kevin Murphy (10 kills), Tom Srnak (8) and Matt Kuzniar (5).

Matt McKenna had 11 digs for Elk Grove (15-11, 3-5), which got 9 kills from Jake Braceros and 12 assists from Ray Kraus.

Prospect d. Wheeling: The Knights prevailed after three close sets, 25-22, 24-26, 25-21, to improve to 6-2 in the MSL East.

Grant Andler led Prospect (15-14 overall) with 14 kills, and Curtis Glennon had 8. Jacob Schwister had 25 assists and Mark Mir 11 for the Knights, and Ryan Maloney had 18 digs.

Jacob Del Toro led Wheeling (10-16, 1-8) with 25 digs. Zack Nauert had 9 kills and 4 blocks, and Eric Ruttenberg was 73-for-75 setting with 25 assists.

Barrington d. Fremd: Mid-Suburban West leader Barrington stayed in front of the division by winning 25-22, 25-21 at Fremd.

Charlie Spry (8 kills) and Kevin Eiring and Peter van Fossan (5 kills apiece) lead the Barrington attack and Tommy Soifer had 19 setting assists. Van Fossan also served 3 aces, and Ben Karon had 5 digs for the Broncos.

Top contributors for Fremd included Andrew Larson (10 kills), Nico Colletier (4 digs), Venkat Ganne (4 block kills) and David Kim (26 assists, 50-for-50).

Buffalo Grove d. Hersey: Evan Bunnetto produced a match-best 20 kills as the visiting Bison outlasted the Huskies 23-25, 25-29, 26-24 in MSL East play.

Nikita Bulauski and Andy Schnittker had 7 kills for the Bison (12-13, 5-4), and Kevin Shanahan provided 23 assists.

Hersey got 9 kills and 6 blocks from Mike Fuerst, 27 assists from Matt Torvik, 23 digs from Fotis Christacos and an 18-for-18 service effort from Kevin Schroeder.

Schaumburg d. Hoffman Estates: The host Saxons evened up their MSL West record at 4-4 by topping the Hawks 22-25, 25-15, 25-17.

Stephen Knitter led Schaumburg (14-15 overall) with 10 kills, and Cameron Nolan and Adam Kobiela had 8 each while Jeremy Musni had 38 assists.

Jovi Pablo led Hoffman Estates with 14 digs, and Anthony Orozco had 10. Matt Stacy led the Hawks with 7 kills.
