Camardo in command as BG wins third straight

Sophomore Julia Camardo got a win, a save and went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double to help lift Buffalo Grove’s softball team to its third straight win in the Mid-Suburban East on Wednesday 10-6 over Rolling Meadows.

The first-place Bison (8-5, 3-2) collected 15 hits as Camardo (6-3) started the game, was replaced by a reliever, and came back to strike out the final batter in the bottom of the seventh as Meadows threatened.

Camardo finished with 13 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Other top hitters for the visiting Bison were Kristina Dakas (3-for-4), Caitlin Catino (3-for-5), Erin Barton (3-for-4, double) and Katie Conley (2-for-4).

Sam Anderson went 2-for-5 for Meadows (6-7, 0-5) while teammate Jenny Watson also had a double.

Elk Grove 12, Prospect 0: After an 0-3 start in the MSL East, the host Grenadiers (12-4, 3-3) have charged back with three straight five-inning wins via the 10-run rule.

Sophomore Shannon Taucher (2-for-3, 3 RBI) hit her third home run in two days, a 3-run blast to left in the Grens’ 9-run fourth inning.

Other top hitters for Elk Grove were Aleece Duffy (2-for-3, RBI), Marjorie Sloan (2-for-3) and Becca Maher (double, 2 RBI).

Winning pitcher Rylee Romano (4-1) is the third Grens pitcher to notch a conference win, striking out three while tossing a 5-hitter.

Sophomore Casey Lenski went 2-for-3 for the Knights (3-8, 1-2).

Hersey 13, Wheeling 3: Becca Derka (3-for-4, RBI). Gina Fasolo (3-fo-r3, 2 RBI), Jessica Schmiederer (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Angela Schmiederer (2-for-4, RBI) led host Hersey (3-6, 1-2) which also received doubles from Michele Bolker and Sammie Carrillo.

Bolker (3-2) earned the win, throwing 3 innings and striking out one. Fang went the final 3 innings, and recorded 4 strikeouts.

Senior Kaitlyn DeBusk went 4-for-4 for the Wildcats (5-7, 0-4).

Maine West 15, Highland Park 0 (5 inn.): Visiting Maine West (8-1, 2-0) led 15-0 after three innings as senior Ariel Valles (6-1) earned the win.

Junior Sadie Argus (3-for-4, 2 runs, 5 RBI) belted 2 home runs including a grand slam to lead the Warriors’ offense in the Central Suburban North game.

Other top contributors were Gina Larucci (3-for-4, 3 runs, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 2-run home run) Abbey Herling (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 runs), Holly Wengerski (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI) and Erin Ross (2-for-2, 2 runs RBI).

Carmel 12, St. Viator 9: Lauren Prazuch had a home run and double for the visiting Lions (3-11) in Mundelein.

Kristen Hackel also homered for St. Viator while teammates Krystal Harris and Gina Mastrodomenico doubled.

We only went 4 innings, again, but we were on the wrong end of the slaughter rule this time.

Chicago Christian 12, Christian Liberty 2 (4 inn.): Christian Liberty’s Jenna Pavlik had the only hit for host Christian Liberty in the third inning. She was 1-for 1 and was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.
