Westminster’s DeHaan throws perfect game

Clay DeHaan struck out 13 of the 15 batters he faced Monday, throwing a five-inning perfect game for Westminster Christian in its 16-0 Northeastern Athletic Conference win over IMSA.

DeHaan threw 65 strikes and 47 balls in his gem, but didn’t walk a batter.

Luke Weston was 4-for-4 for the Warriors with a double and 4 RBI. Will Woodhouse (3-for-4, 2B, 4 RBI), Tyler Mamrot (2 RBI), Chase Woods (RBI), John Wawro (2-for-4), Ian Merlak (RBI) and Nick DeMaira (RBI) also contributed to the offense for Westminster (3-4, 3-0).

Bartlett 5, Lake Park 0: Colin Nowak scattered 6 hits and had 7 strikeouts with 1 walk to lead the Hawks to an Upstate Eight win. Mike Wick and Matt Vitulli were each 2-for-4 with a double for Bartlett (9-2, 8-2), while Mike Roberson, Jake Barrutia (2B) and Justin Blanchett each drove in a run.

St. Edward 1, Guerin 0: Michael Castoro (2-for-3) singled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, took second on an error, stole third and then scored the game-winning run on an error to lift the Green Wave in the Suburban Christian. Jake LaFrenz allowed 5 hits and had 7 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win for St. Edward (10-3, 8-2).

Jacobs 12, Woodstock North 3: Connor Conzelman hit a 3-run home run and Joe Rizzuto was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Golden Eagles to a Fox Valley Conference win. Greg Sidor (2-for-3), Grant Kale, Aaron Meciej (2-for-4), Danny Vandewalker, Ryan Sargent and Eric Stein drove in runs for Jacobs (12-3, 4-1) and Ryan Jones had a double. Tim Hubner picked up the win, striking out 9 in 5 innings.

Neuqua Valley 11, Elgin 1: Ethan Henke had a home run and Ryan Sitter doubled for the Maroons (2-10, 1-8) in this Upstate Eight loss. Kiko Mari took the loss for Elgin.

Larkin 9, Metea Valley 8: Tyler Kalusa was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Rob Bond had a double and an RBI for Larkin (4-8, 1-7) in the Upstate Eight. Niko Morado drove in 2 runs for the Royals and Jon Lenz was the winning pitcher.

St. Charles North 6, South Elgin 4: Ryan Nutof, Justin Markel, Alex Wolfe (RBI) and Nick Binder each had doubles for South Elgin in this UEC loss. David Goins and Joe Crivolio each had RBI for the Storm (6-6, 5-4) and Wolfe suffered the loss on the mound.

Grayslake North 8, Dundee-Crown 6: Luis Garcia (2B, 2 RBI) and Zach Girard (2 RBI) each had doubles for Dundee-Crown (5-7, 3-5) in the FVC. Trent Muscat also doubled for the Chargers.
