Burton makes certain for Mundelein

Blake Burton and his Mundelein volleyball teammates refused to lose Wednesday night.

Burton buried 15 kills and the Mustangs rallied past Warren 20-25, 25-23, 25-19 in a North Suburban Conference thriller.

John Lentz and Samual Nelson added 7 and 6 kills, respectively, for Mundelein (12-9, 1-2), while Joey Tylka had 4 kills and 3 solo blocks.

Mustangs setter Victor Magana lofted 31 assists.

Stevenson d. Grant: The Patriots remained undefeated in North Suburban Conference action, as Keenan Herman, Connor Perlin and Jack Cordes each had 6 kills in a 25-14, 25-13 win.

Stevenson (14-2, 4-0) also got 10 digs from Cordes, 8 from Scott Feldman and a pair of aces from Perlin. Feldman also dished out 16 assists and had 2 solo blocks, as did Jeff Maskalunas.

The Patriots played without stars Brad Tiller and Jonah May.

Vernon Hills d. Libertyville: The Cougars won 25-13, 25-21 to improve to 12-3 and 3-0 in the North Suburban Conference.

Max Spiglanin and Michael Heinz hammered 7 and 6 kills, respectively. Lemuel Turner had 5 solo blocks and 3 kills, while Danny Rosenstock and Tyler Small also had 3 kills apiece. Ryan Opitz added a pair of kills and set 45 of 46 with 20 assists.

“It’s always a charged-up atmosphere when Libertyville comes to town,” Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry said. “We were able to serve aggressively and get them out of system, and when we got smarter with our attack, we made a nice run from behind in Set 2.

“Lem Turner put up a very formidable block.”

Libertyville received 4 kills apiece from Michael Axe and Ryan Stueckmann.

Lake Zurich d. North Chicago: Brent Sweetwood and Matt Carmody pounded 6 and 5 kills, respectively for the Bears in their 25-7, 25-10 win.

Lake Zurich (4-6, 1-3 North Suburban) received 2 aces apiece from Andy Tom and Tommy Orchard. Pat Bush dished out 11 assists.
