Fremd tops St. Viator

Fremd’s girls volleyball team improved to 25-10 by posting a 25-17, 25-21 victory over No. 9-seeded St. Viator in the St. Viator regional semifinal on Tuesday night.

The No. 8 seeded Vikings advance to Thursday’s 6 p.m. championship against top-seeded Lake Forest, which defeated Highland Park 25-15, 25-10 in the other semifinal.

St. Viator closed out its season at 15-21.

Lauren Falotico served 3 aces with 7 kills and 10 digs for the Lions while setter Emily Williams (9 digs) handed out 18 assists and put down 3 kills.

At Stevenson regional: Led by Rachel Baader’s 8 kills, No. 2 Stevenson (28-8) posted a 25-14, 25-15 semifinal victory over No. 14 Prospect (11-20).

In the other semifinal, No. 7 Mundelein topped No 10 Palatine 25-23, 25-18 as the Pirates were led on attack by Amanda Hilmer and Cassie Chaplinsky with 4 kills each.

Pirates senior setter Laura Kluk handed out 13 assists with 15 digs and an ace.

Elk Grove regional: Top-seeded York stopped No. 16 Elk Grove 25-17, 25-21 in the semifinal as the Grens (11-25) were led on attack by Mallorie DeWitt and Diamond Boyd, who each had 4 kills.

Samantha Hopkins collected 6 digs while Boyd had 2 blocks.

Kerry Souder (8 assists) and Christine Juhas (7 assists) set the Grens’ offense.

Bartlett regional: No. 3 Glenbard West turned back No. 15 Conant 25-20, 25-18 in the semifinal.

The Cougars (17-20) were led on attack by sophomore Jenn Donnell (8 kills) and senior Michelle Lauterbach (5 kills, 2 blocks) while junior Taylor Levitt was 41-of-42 setting with 12 assists. Rachael Yordon collected 11 digs and Allie Bauch was 16-of-16 serve receiving.

Maine South regional: Maine South defeated the Warriors 25-19, 25-12 in the semifinal. The Warriors (3-27) were led on attack by Katie Fitzgerald (3 kills, 2 blocks) and Brynn Einecker (2 kills).
