New Trier meets Prospect’s challenge

Defending Class AA girls golf champion New Trier shot a 149 on the front nine of the Winnetka Golf Course to defeat visiting Prospect (159) in Wednesday’s dual meet between state powers.

Prospect, which finished fourth in the 2010 AA tourney, was led by sophomore Kiley Walsh’s 1-over-par score of 36, which included a birdie on the first hole.

“Kiley hit a ton of greens,” said Knights coach Jim Hamann. “Her game is getting real good, real fast. I’ve been really impressed with her 100-yard and inside game.”

Hamann was also impressed by the Trevians on Wednesday.

“Not many teams were going to beat them (Wednesday),” he said.

Senior Alison Walsh shot a 40 for the Knights followed by senior Christine Garmoe (41), sophomore Noreen Caporusso (42) and senior Sarah Scaccia (42).

Barrington 180, St. Charles East 180: Barrington freshman Julia Calbi shot a 1-over 36 on the Makray Memorial Golf Course in Barrington. Sophomore Heather Ciskowski chipped in a 38 for the Fillies.
