Girls swimming and diving sectionals

When: Diving at 9 a.m. today, swimming at 1 p.m. today

What: Qualification for the state meet. All event winners plus any more competitors who better the state time standard advance.

Stevenson sectional outlook: Most of the Mid-Suburban League gets together again only this time, there will be more of an emphasis on racing the clock as teams try to qualify for next weekend's state meet at Evanston, and quality teams from the host Patriots, Maine West and St. Viator will join the mix. Barrington is the dominant area team and is hoping to qualify all three relays and individuals in virtually every event. Seniors Anne Jacobsen, Kate Valentine and Jacqueline Holdsberg have state-meet experience and hope to make it again; junior Erika Elliott has been under the state cut most of the season in both the 100 and 200 freestyles and sophomore Danielle Elliott is close in the 200 and the 500 frees. Other individuals with a chance to advance include sophomore Justine Kaszynski and freshmen Olivia Hoffman and Mekenna Scheitlin. Hersey's Amanda Petro has been under the state cut in the 100 and 200 freestyles; senior Christine Rovani has been near the cut in the 100 breaststroke, and both will compete on the Huskies' medley relay which has been steadily closing in on a team record and the state cut all year. Palatine's Monica Dorszewski hopes to advance in both for the 200 free and the 100 breaststroke for a second straight year, and Pirates junior Nicole Huffman has been sharp in recent meets. Fremd has individual state meet hopefuls in Megan Kennedy, Breanna Anderson and Kayleen Samuels and relays that are within striking distance of state. Buffalo Grove's Veronika Jedryka qualified in the 500 free last year and has been right at the state cut already this season. Prospect's Jessica Cavaiani has been one of the top 100 breaststrokers in the area all season and seems on track for a qualifying effort. Rolling Meadows has a pair who've been near the state standard, junior Vicky Vockeroth and sophomore Neeka Szacilo. Maine West senior sprinter Ailish O'Connell is looking for another trip to the state meet and hopes to score points this time. St. Viator's medley relay of Margaret Stefanowski, Meglanie Battaglia, Erin Primdahl and Megan Shover set a team record of 1:53.41 this season; both Battaglia and breaststroker Stephanie Nolan are state meet veterans; Shover is close in the sprints and Primdahl has a chance n the 100 fly and 100 back. In diving, Palatine's Mallory Fisher (two-time MSL champ) and Stephanie Hamer, Fremd's Elizabeth and Stephanie Uhrich, Hersey's Katie Dewar, Maine West's Jennifer Rey and Prospect's Sarah and Christina Pekar all have chances to move on.

York sectional outlook: Freshman Simona Kurta has Elk Grove's best chance to advance, in the 100 fly. Conant sophomore Barbara Rose impressed at the MSL meet with a fourth-place finish in the 500 free but needs another big time drop to make state.

St. Charles North sectional outlook: Schaumburg senior Sammy Schuckles leads the way among area teams competing here. A state meet veteran, she'll look to advance in the 100 back and 100 free. The Saxons also have a chance with breaststroker Sydney Skibinski and senior Emily Langlotz.

State qualifying time standards: medley relay 1:51.35, 200 free 1:56.61, 200 IM 2:11.97, 50 free 24.84, 100 fly 59.64, 100 free 53.99, 500 free 5:12.97, 200 free relay 1:40.15, 100 backstroke 1:00.09, 100 breaststroke 1:08.46, 400 free relay 3:39.29
